I am excited to be learning with and guiding your elementary Harrison Hawks about the world of technology!
We work on many skills during our class time, based on ISTE Standards. Students will be learning 21st Century skills that are aligned and based with the new 2016 ISTE Standards (International Society of Technology Education). Here is a link to the new ISTE Standards - http://www.iste.org/standards/standards/for-students-2016
One exciting change/new skills that students will be learning about this year is Google Apps for Education (GAFE). This is a suite of products that Canon City Schools, as well as many other school districts, are beginning to incorporate within our infrastructure. Last year was the first rollout for staff, while this year students 3rd-5th grade will be involved by learning to use GAFE software such as word processing (Google Docs), presentation software (Google Slides), spreadsheets (Google sheets), email (a school district only, Gmail based via Canon City School district, closed system), and classroom websites (Google Sites). Staff will also be learning new technology skills in addition to the new reading curriculum and literacy programs. All of your teachers are dedicated, hard working and excited to journey with students this year as everyone learns new skills!
Please contact me if you have questions, concerns, or need clarification. Just like your child, I am learning about technology and we are all excited and will make mistakes, get frustrated, persevere, problem solve and learn!
